Attraction Management

What's up guys!

Today, I am gonna bring you through Bras Basah.Bugis, one of my favorite places. Bras Basah.Bugis is the arts and cultural districts in Singapore's civic center. The place house many museums such as National Museum of Singapore, the Singapore Arts Museum, Armenian Church and the Peranakan Museum. National monuments can also be found there including St Joseph's Church, Armenian Church and many more. Located within the area are renowned institutions like School Of The Arts a.k.a SOTA, Central Library and Singapore Management University (SMU). With a mixture of past and modern architecture, Bras Basah.Bugis represents a modern city with its arts and architecture whilst retaining a taste of the past heritage. The district is also one of Singapore's oldest place. The name Bras Basah actually means "wet rice". Do you know that Bras Basah was also once marked as the European part of Singapore by Sir Stamford Raffles? Well, that was my first time hearing about it. While touring this place, I found out that this place attracts lots of people, be it locals or tourists. A must watch is the Singapore Arts Festival. With the event going on, activities in the national museum and Arts museum has been set up. Continuing on, Bugis street is also one of the must go site in Bras Basah.Bugis precinct.

This is the famous Bugis Street that every young adults knew. This exactly fits the phrase, 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. Inside is a whole new world. Hahaha!!!

In Bugis Street, there are many pretty clothes. They have all the newest and the clothes that are currently trending. Also the price is at an affordable price. If you're lucky enough, you might get a discount too!

And if you felt hungry while shopping, there is always food waiting for you! This is on the ground floor. There is also a stall selling delicious crepe at the second floor.

Other than that, there is also souvenir shops for tourists. They can buy items like key chains, magnets, clothes and many more that 'shouts' Singapore. Also, it is sold at a cheap price and it normally sold as a bundle so it is better to buy as bulk.

Moving on! Just in front of Bugis street there is Bugis Junction and beside it, there is Bugis+ . There is a theater where people can go there and watch for a movie.

Further down to the back of Bugis street, there is a hawker center, Albert Center. This is an alternative to the snacks that can be found in Bugis street. Food there won't probably be able to fill your stomach. That is where many local foods are sold.

Just around the vicinity, there is Singapore Arts Musuem a.k.a SAM where it has international contemporary art practices. Its opening hours on Monday-Sunday is 10 am to 7 pm. On friday, it is till 9 pm. It opened its first door to the public in 1996 and became Singapore's first art museum! When I went in, I was stunned at the art piece that stood just beside the staircase. The art pieces inside are truly magnificent!

Singapore Arts Museum
Visitors can take the bus or MRT to SAM. If visitors were to take the MRT from Bras Basah mrt, it is a 2 min walk. From City Hall, Bugis or Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, it is a 10 min walk.

National Museum of Singapore
Just a few walks down, there is National Museum of Singapore. Its opening hours is from 10 am to 6 pm with the last admission at 5.30 pm. Visitors can take the MRT to Bras Basah station, City Hall station or Dhoby Ghaut station.

The National Museum of Singapore is the oldest museum in Singapore. The museum actually started as a section of a library at Singapore Institution. The museum focuses mainly on the history of Singapore. The architecture of the museum is very beautiful and when I step inside the museum, I felt a sense of grand-ness. The whole place feels so grand, the interior and the decor. It's really a must see museum. I found out that they are holding an exhibit to celebrate the June holidays. It's a great way to bond with the family! And also, the memorial for out late founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, is still on-going. Take a trip down the National Museum to know more about his life.

The picture above show items that Mr Lee Kuan Yew once wore.

These are the well wishes that Singaporeans wrote when Mr Lee Kuan Yew was in hospital.

The museum also showcase the days during the Japanese Occupation and prisoners-of-war (POWs)

The Five Kings of Singapore

The Peranakan Museum is a museum that focuses on the peranakan culture in Singapore, Malacca, Penang and peranakan communities of Southeast Asia. It is the first in the world. The museum is really an eye opener to me. I am not really familiar with the nyonya culture until the blockbuster hit drama 'The Little Nyonya' aired. Then I was able to be expose to the culture, food and clothes. The museum was really a very interesting visit for me.

This is what the wedding of the peranakans look like. It is really different from the ones I usually see.

This is the clothes that the peranakans wore. It is so beautiful that i want to wear it too!! I wonder where can I rent it, hahaha.

This is the utensils that they use. It has flower pattern on them.

Armenian Church

Armenian Church is the oldest Christian Church in Singapore. The man behind the architect of the church is none other than George Drumgoole Coleman. This was said to be his masterpiece that became the finest landmark in the early architectural development of the country.

Armenian Church was announced a national monument back in July 1973.

The opening hours is from 9 am to 6 pm.

The interior of the church is based on traditional Armenian church architecture.

This is the Memorial Garden where the tombs of those Armenians who died in Singapore lay. However, the garden was never used as a memorial garden. The tombstones were all transported from a Christian cemetery in Bukit Timah.

What I found interesting about the district is that the past and modern really coincides perfectly with each other. There are no clashes and it complements one another well. It is hard to find places like this in Singapore nowadays, isn't? It is nice to still be able to have a glimpse of the heritage, like the church and the museums. It has so many exciting thing to see!!

The only thing that i disliked about the district is that there are too many bus stops and it is very confusing as to which bus goes to which bus stop. If it is the first time that you went there, I'll bet that you will get confuse when you wanna take the bus. There is a bus stop right in front of Bugis Street and also the opposite. Further down, there is another bus stop which serves other bus numbers. Also, at the back of Bugis Junction, there is another bus stop. But if you go to the district frequently, you will be able to roughly know which bus stop to wait for certain buses, like me. Hahaha.

But all in all, I think that Bras Basah.Bugis is really an exciting place with all the museums, church and the shopping!
